This deity, also known as Jizo, is a protector of travelers and of children. They are also guardians of lost souls. These statues are commonly seen throughout Japan, often found along trails in the mountains.
Hidden shrines in moss covered forests were always Momo’s favorite thing to discover during family hikes. Sometimes travelers would leave offerings such as food or even adorn these figures with hand made hats and bibs.
