My work usually references symbolism from my Japanese heritage. But earlier this year I was thinking a lot about how America is in the process of developing its own cultures and traditions.
I decided to forge a symbol that could pass the test of time and the versatility of this fruit spoke to me. I love how bananas can range from breakfast-of-champions, a symbol of health, as well as comedy, and fertility.
I experimented by making a simple typical banana that most Americans would be most familiar with, then a larger one which I call 'Plantain', then 'Fresh Peel', and 'Perfectly Ripe' with the meat of the fruit exposed.
Perfectly ripe the only one from the Banana Series showing the inner fruit. This banana looks ready for the first bite. This one of a kind glass piece is appetizing to some and fascinating to all.
