Free form hot sculpted glass

Made right before graduating from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. This piece was a reflection of all that I had learned and experienced during my time at an art university. This piece was designed for and interactive performance piece. The larger than life wine glass would be filled with red wine and as it was consumed Dionysus, the greek god of wine and fertility, would be revealed. I loved to think of Dionysus as also the god of misfits.
During my senior thesis I was exploring the idea of how we as humans seems to reveal our true selves at night. The first iteration of this performance piece took place during the day but in a light and soundproof studio tucked away in a bright a cavernous new building. Coming across the unexpected and seeing stark dualities unfold helps to make people realize that theres so much more to life than what we assume or are accustom to.
