This upcoming Lunar New Year is the year of the Fire Horse. So I thought it would be a perfect time to release these glass “horses” forged from fire. These were made when I had access to a Copper Blue glass furnace similar to the Copper Pond Series.
Because of their abstract nature and the blue color of this series I thought it would be fun to call these Picasso Ponies.
I love that some look like magical unicorns, others look like an aardvark, but each one offers a fascinating gesture.
To share a little more information on these sculptures, these are what glass blowers call Pulled Horses. You gather molten glass from the furnace and punch it and pull it in one go without reheating the glass and attempt to sculpt a horse. It's a fun party trick that people like to practice from time to time.
