Copper Puddle 02
Hot poured Copper Blue glass
7 x 6.75 x .5 in (17.75 x 17 x 1.25 cm)
2023
(1 month)
Part of the Copper Pond Series. This Puddle is made with Copper Blue glass that was cooked in a furnace in San Francisco and then hand ladled to create this form.
Artist don’t usually have access to a colored furnace. Most glass studios have one furnace melting clear glass and color is not allowed in these furnaces because it would permanently contaminate the pot.
A large ladle was used to scoop a molten glass. As simple as it may sound the act of ladling hot glass requires a team. One person is fully suited, another is opening and closing the furnace door, and a third person is cleaning and trimming the ladle before the pour. Often times there are more people ready to alternate positions, torching to preheat any molds or surface, and cleaning and prepping the next ladle.
