Kristen Momoko Schafer, better known as Momo, is currently focused on helping communities create a tangible relationship with glass art. The goal is to break down the social barriers around galleries and fine art while promoting an educational dialogue around taboo human behavior.
Momo is 22 years old and graduated this past May from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt). Momo was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised right outside of the city and spend most of her summers in Sagamihara, Japan. She had her first encounter with glass at the age of 11 through a bead making workshop in Yamanashi. Momo started working three dimensionally with jewelry and then in high school moved onto ceramics and sought further education at The Danforth Art Museum. Eventually she interned as an educator at Danforth and interned at Gallery 55 as a curator and advertiser. During her career at MassArt she worked at Diablo Glass School, Watts Hot Glass, and received two full scholarships to Urban Glass in NY. She also received the MassArt All School Show Award in 2015 and 2016.
